Four Disciplines. One Team.
Packaging that does its job quietly is rarely an accident. It’s the result of sourcing the right container, specifying it correctly, decorating it under one roof, and delivering it where it needs to be, reliably, for years. That’s the work. ILLING has been doing it since 1927.
Sourcing the right packaging.
ILLING is a manufacturer’s representative, wholesaler, and in-house decorator. We deliberately do not use the word distributor. That word implies a middleman who moves boxes from one place to another. What we actually do starts here.
Our relationships with hundreds of domestic and global manufacturers mean we’re not limited to a catalog of what we happen to stock. When a customer has a requirement that a standard container doesn’t meet, we find the manufacturer who can meet it. The relationships that make that possible took decades to build, and they’re the difference between a buyer who hears “we don’t stock that” and one who hears “let me check who does.”
Where our network earns its keep
- Domestic and global manufacturer access spanning HDPE, polypropylene, steel, and PET container categories
- Specialty applications including fluorinated containers, UN-rated configurations, and recycled-content sustainable options
- Container alternatives when your current source goes on allocation or exits a product line
- Direct-from-source ship arrangements when freight geography favors that path
- Sourcing for both stock SKUs and custom mold development programs
When supply chains disrupt (raw material shortages, manufacturer allocations, freight delays), the diversification of our network is what keeps our customers’ production schedules moving. That’s not a theoretical capability. It’s a conversation we’ve had with customers more times than we can count.
Talk to us about sourcing
Specification that holds up in the real world.
Most packaging failures don’t start on the production floor. They start weeks or months earlier in the specification process, or more accurately, in the absence of one. Design is where we keep that from happening.
From identifying the right stock container for a specific application to managing custom mold development for a proprietary container design, we’re involved in the specification process, not just the fulfillment of it. The right sequence is to identify regulatory requirements first, then specify a container that meets them, not the other way around. Working through that with you is what Design actually is.
What we help you specify
- Container type, material, and geometry matched to your product chemistry and fill weight
- Chemical compatibility assessment, including permeation risk for aggressive solvents and agricultural chemistries
- Closure engineering: thread compatibility, liner material, torque specification
- UN/DOT regulatory alignment for hazardous materials transport
- FDA food-contact compliance for food ingredient applications
- Decoration method alignment with substrate, run size, and end-use environment
- Custom mold development from initial brief through first article approval
We help you build the spec, either from scratch for a new product, or by documenting the requirements of containers you’re already running successfully. Once it’s written, everyone is working from the same standard, and conversations about quality and acceptance criteria have a documented reference instead of someone’s memory.
Let’s talk about your design ideas…
Five methods. One roof.
All decoration runs in-house, under the same roof as sourcing. That integration eliminates the handoff between vendors that derails so many decoration programs, one of the most preventable failure modes in industrial packaging.
Most companies that source industrial packaging and most companies that handle decoration are not the same company. Buyers source containers from one supplier, ship them to a separate decoration vendor, and receive decorated containers back before production. That’s two vendors, two lead times, two invoices, and two points where something can go wrong before a single unit reaches your floor. We eliminate that step entirely.
Five methods, all in-house
- Silk screen printing: durable ink bonded directly to the container, ideal for high-volume runs and harsh-condition applications
- Shrink sleeve labeling: full 360-degree coverage that conforms to complex container shapes, with tamper-evident options
- Pressure-sensitive labeling: flexible, fast, suited to short-to-medium runs and variable-data applications
- Pail labeling: specialized application for curved container surfaces at production scale
- RFID labeling: supply-chain traceability, chain-of-custody documentation, and anti-counterfeit applications
Our decoration platform is also available to other packaging distributors and manufacturers’ representatives who don’t have in-house decoration capacity of their own. When a packaging manufacturer refers their own customers to us for decoration, that’s a relationship we take seriously. We operate as an extension of the referring partner’s service capability, with the same quality standards we apply to every decoration run.
Explore Decoration
500,000 square feet. Four states. Whatever it takes.
Approximately 500,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space across Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Georgia, with stocking agreements that keep your containers available on demand, plus direct-ship capability from manufacturer locations across the country.
Shipping packaging is, in a real sense, shipping air. Container weight is negligible; freight is not. That’s why warehouse positioning and direct-ship arrangements matter as much as the containers themselves. A customer on the West Coast gets the same responsiveness as one down the road from our Minneapolis facility. The network is the service.
How we get packaging where it needs to be
- Warehouse fulfillment from four states (MN, IL, WI, and GA), positioned for regional reach
- Stocking agreements that hold inventory on your behalf, sized to your consumption rate
- Direct-ship capability from manufacturer source for customers outside our warehouse geography
- Safety stock and reorder-point planning support
- Alternative sourcing activation when primary suppliers go on allocation or experience disruption
The same team that brings you on stays accountable as the relationship evolves. That’s a cultural commitment, and it’s one we’ve been making for nearly 100 years. Packaging problems don’t follow business hours. A production line that’s down on a Friday afternoon needs a solution on Friday afternoon, not Monday morning, and that’s how we operate.

From Brief to Pallet
How an engagement moves through ILLING.
- 01
Conversation
We start with questions, not a pitch. What are you running? What’s working, what isn’t? What does your supply chain look like today? Honest answers in both directions to figure out whether we’re the right fit.
- 02
Specification
Container, material, closure, decoration, compliance. We work backward from what your product and regulatory environment require, identify the right path (stock or custom), and document the spec so everyone’s working from the same standard.
- 03
Production & Decoration
Sourcing runs through our manufacturer network. Decoration runs in-house under our roof: silk screen, shrink sleeve, pressure-sensitive label, pail label, RFID. Quality control sits on the same floor as the sourcing function, not handed off across vendors.
- 04
Delivery & Beyond
Containers ship from warehouse or direct from source. Stocking agreements keep the next release ready. Label updates, spec changes, supply disruptions: the same team that brought you on stays accountable for the relationship as it evolves.
By the Numbers
The scale behind the disciplines.
- 100 Years of family ownership since 1927
- 4 Warehouse states: MN, IL, WI, GA
- ~500K Square feet of distribution space
- 100s Manufacturer relationships, domestic and global
