Automotive Packaging – Built for the shop. And the shelf.

Packaging for motor oils, lubricants, automotive fluids, and chemical products, from bulk drums and IBCs to retail-ready bottles, cans, and jugs. UN-rated where it counts, decorated in-house, and stocked across four warehouses.

Right Container, Right Job

From bulk storage to retail display.

Automotive packaging demands chemical resistance, secure sealing, and a retail presence that builds brand trust on the shelf. The wrong container can mean a leaking shipment, a compliance issue, or a product that doesn’t move.

ILLING serves oil blenders, lubricant manufacturers, fluid formulators, and automotive brands with packaging that performs at every point in the supply chain: bulk through retail, industrial through consumer.

Browse by container type below, or reach out and we’ll match you to the right packaging for your product and volume.

The same ILLING facility that stocks your container can decorate it, turning a standard jug or drum into a branded product ready for the auto parts aisle or the distributor catalog.

From plain jug. To branded product.

We run pressure-sensitive labeling, shrink sleeve, and silk screen on our own lines, including high-speed PSL on bottle and jug lines suited for automotive fluid packaging. Quick-turn for stocked items, full-service for new programs.

Why ILLING

Spec’d right. Stocked deep. Shipped fast.

Automotive chemicals and lubricants have real packaging requirements: chemical compatibility, UN ratings for regulated materials, and closure systems that hold up under real handling conditions. ILLING has been getting these specs right for nearly 100 years, with the inventory depth and warehouse footprint to back it up.

Compliance & Capabilities

Things that typically come up.

Automotive fluid and lubricant packaging carries real regulatory weight. Here’s what we get asked most often. Reach out if your question isn’t covered.

What type of container should I use for motor oil or automotive lubricants?
It depends on where the product is going and how much you’re moving. Retail motor oil typically ships in HDPE quart or gallon jugs. Bulk distribution uses drums and IBCs: steel for flammable products, HDPE for non-flammable lubricants. Greases and gear oils go into open-head pails. We help customers work through the full container system, closure, and filling process, not just the container.
Do automotive fluid containers need to be UN-rated?
Some do. It depends on how your product is classified under DOT regulations. Flammable liquids and certain corrosives require a UN-rated container with the correct performance group for transport. Not every drum or pail in each size carries the same ratings, so confirming against your DOT classification has to happen before the order is placed. ILLING stocks UN-rated drums, pails, and cans across steel and plastic, and we provide closing instructions for DOT requirements so you have everything you need to stay compliant.
How do I make sure my packaging is chemically compatible with my automotive fluid or lubricant?
Compatibility has to be confirmed at the resin level, not just the material type. Aggressive solvents, certain additives, and high-temperature fills can degrade specific resins over time. The liner and closure have to be confirmed compatible too. Before we recommend a container, we ask about the formulation, the fill temperature, and how the product ships and stores. That conversation happens before the order is placed, not after something fails in the field.
